Privacy Policy

Wakelore (“Wakelore,” “we,” “us”) is a dream journal with an AI interpreter, operated from California. Your dreams are personal, so this policy is written plainly: it explains what we collect, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the control you keep over it. Questions? Email hello@wakelore.app.

What we collect

• Account details. Your name and email address, provided by Google when you sign in. We never see your Google password.
• Your profile. The context you choose to add about your life so readings can be personalized.
• Your dream entries. The dream titles, descriptions, moods, tags, sleep notes, and anything else you write into your journal.
• Usage. How many AI readings you've run in a month and when, so we can enforce plan limits and prevent abuse. The free reader at wakelore.app/try works without an account. To enforce its daily limit, we store a salted, one-way hash of your IP address with a count of the free readings run from it on each UTC day, and the same for dreams saved to carry into sign-up (below). We never store the IP address itself, and the hash isn't linked to an account.
• A dream you carry into sign-up. Google sign-in doesn't work inside other apps' browsers (like TikTok's). If you use the free reader there and tap to carry your dream to Safari or Chrome, we store that dream under a one-time code, with how you found Wakelore (the details the wl_ft and wl_src cookies below hold) so your sign-up is still credited to that link. Nothing else: no account, no IP address. It's deleted as soon as it's added to your journal, and in any case within 24 hours.
• Payment info. Handled entirely by Stripe. We store your plan and Stripe customer/subscription identifiers — never your card number.
• Basic analytics. Privacy-friendly, aggregate usage data (such as page views and conversion steps) via Vercel. No advertising trackers, no cross-site profiling.
• Short links. If you arrive through one of our short links (such as wakelore.app/tt), we count the visit and set a first-party cookie that records only which link it was, for 30 days, so we can count how many readings each link leads to. It holds no personal information and is never shared.

How we use it

To run the service: store your journal, generate readings, remember which plan you're on, understand in aggregate how Wakelore is used, and keep the service secure. We do not use your dream content to advertise to you, and we never sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that make Wakelore work, and only as much as each one needs:

• Anthropic (Claude). When you request a reading, the relevant dream text and profile context are sent to Anthropic's API to generate it. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, this data is not used to train their models.
• Stripe. Processes payments and stores your payment method. See Stripe's own privacy policy for details.
• Vercel. Hosts the app and provides the aggregate analytics described above.
• Sentry. Tells us when part of Wakelore breaks. When an error happens, Sentry receives the error details, the web address where it happened (without anything after a “?”), your browser type, and your account ID if you're signed in. If the error happened in your browser, Sentry also sees your IP address when the report reaches it, as any site you connect to does. When an earlier error in the same visit has already loaded Sentry, the report includes the pages you opened, the requests they made, and what you clicked since then, recorded by web address and page layout, never by the words on the page or anything you typed. Before a report is sent we remove request contents, cookies, and every account detail except the ID. Your browser contacts Sentry only after an error.
• Our database host. Stores your account and journal securely.
• Google. Only for sign-in.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Your controls and rights

You can export a full copy of your data as JSON at any time, and delete your account — which permanently erases your profile, every dream, every analysis, and your sign-in — from your Settings page. Because we hold your data, California residents (under the CCPA/CPRA) and users elsewhere have the right to access, correct, delete, and receive a copy of their personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. The tools above let you do most of this yourself instantly; for anything else, email hello@wakelore.app.

Retention & security

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account removes it, apart from counts that were never linked to an account, such as the free reader's daily-limit counts and the steps described under Cookies. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest, and your journal is visible only to you. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit access to what's needed to run the service.

Cookies

Wakelore sets only its own cookies, never advertising or cross-site ones. Sign-in cookies keep you signed in and protect the Google sign-in step.

A second cookie, named wl_ft, remembers how you first found Wakelore. We set it only when a visit arrives from a link with campaign tags (utm_source, utm_medium and similar) or from another website. It holds those tags, the other website's domain (never the full address), the page you landed on and the time. It holds no name, email or IP address. Scripts on the page can't read it. It is set once, not updated on later visits, and expires after 30 days.

A third, named wl_src, is set only when you arrive through one of our short links (such as wakelore.app/tt). It records which link it was and nothing else, so we can count how many free readings each link leads to, and it expires after 30 days.

If you create an account while wl_ft is set, we save the same first-visit details with your account, and deleting your account deletes them. We also count five steps: a free reading delivered, an account created, a first full reading, a reading refused because the month's free readings are used up, and an upgrade to Plus. Each count stores when it happened and, if known, the campaign tags or the other website's domain you first arrived from. These five counts carry no account, email or IP address, hashed or otherwise, so they stay after an account is deleted.

A fourth, named wl_claim, is set only when you open a link that carries a dream out of another app's browser. It holds that link's one-time code, so the dream can be handed over once you've signed in. Scripts on the page can't read it; it's removed when the dream is added to your journal and expires within 24 hours.

Children

Wakelore isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. To purchase a paid plan you must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll do our best to let you know in the app.
